Polartec® Power Stretch® Pro

Clothing that moves with you.
Polartec® Power Stretch® Pro™ fabrics feature body-hugging 4-way stretch and are very breathable. They keep you dry when you sweat and provide warmth without weight. These fabrics feature a proprietary construction with two unique surfaces: a durable nylon outer layer is wind and abrasion resistant; the soft polyester inner layer pulls moisture away from your skin keeping you dry, warm and comfortable. The fabrics excel at handling the demands of the next-to-skin environment.

How Does It Work?
Moisture Management
Moisture and high relative humidity next to the skin cause discomfort. Polartec® Power Stretch® Pro™ keeps the skin dry through three complementary mechanisms:
1. The fabric is highly breathable and does not restrict the movement of moisture vapor.
2. “Touch Points” on the fabric inner surface draw off the sweat. Sweat is wicked off the skin to the outside of the fabric, where it spreads rapidly for evaporation.
3. When the sweat reaches the outside of the fabric, it spreads out to many times its original surface area, enabling it to dry at least 2 times faster than cotton.

Durability
The technical bi-component construction employs nylon on the exterior of the fabric for durability and polyester next to skin for moisture management. It was engineered for high-end performance for the most demanding end-user, concerned with managing the diverse micro-climate conditions of exterior durability and internal comfort.

Polartec® Power Dry® High Efficiency

Base layer fabrics that keep you comfortable and dry through every adventure.
Polartec® Power Dry® High Efficiency™ fabrics are designed to keep your skin dry when you sweat. All fabrics in this series feature a bi-component knit construction that uses different yarns on either side of the fabric. This creates two different surfaces: one that is optimized to move moisture away from the skin, the other to dry quickly.

Superior moisture management plus our patented (US Patent #6927182) High Efficiency™ construction ensures that athletes get the most bang from their caloric buck. These fabrics weigh less, take up less pack space, and deliver more insulation and breathability than most fabrics in their class.

How Does It Work?
Moisture Management

The raised fabric pillars on the inside create touch points for moisture pick up off the skin. Polartec® Power Dry® High Efficiency™ fabrics deliver performance in the cleanest way possible, by leaving out what you don’t need.

Polartec® Classic

The original and the best fleece on the market.
Polartec® Classic fabrics are the reference standard for lightweight warmth and breathability. This is the original fleece offering unparalleled quality and durability. Polartec® Classic fabrics have been the primary insulation layer of choice among experienced outdoor enthusiasts for nearly three decades.

These fabrics are available in a range of weights to provide the right level of insulation for most outdoor activities. Polartec® Classic 100 weight fabrics are the lightest and are excellent for a warm first layer or lightweight sweater, ideal for biking, trail running, and backpacking. Polartec® Classic 300 weight fabrics are the heaviest and provide a warm thermal layer for very cold outdoor activities, such as wintertime adventures. Halfway in between are Polartec® Classic 200 weight fabrics, providing outstanding warmth and versatility.

The Polartec® Classic line includes over 90 styles of fabrics available in hundreds of colors, weights and finishes. Many styles are also available with a water repellent surface that sheds rain and snow (and even coffee spilled on the way to work). The Polartec® Classic line not only provides outstanding warmth without weight, but is breathable and durable, dries quickly and is a great styling option for virtually every end use.

How Does It Work?
The 100% polyester velour construction creates air pockets that trap air and retain body heat. Unlike other fleece fabrics, Polartec® Classic products maintain their insulating ability and non-pilling appearance after repeated laundering.

Polartec® Thermal Pro®/ High Loft

High-performance insulation with unique fleece textures.
Polartec® Thermal Pro® gear is the most visually dynamic and technically advanced of the Polartec® insulation fabrics. Available in a variety of unique surface textures and patterns - many of which are designed to enhance performance — Polartec® Thermal Pro® materials are great styling options for virtually every end use. New high loft versions have achieved the highest warmth-to-weight ratios of any fabric Polartec® has ever offered. Other versions have the look of traditional wool with all the performance benefits of fleece. Polartec® Thermal Pro® is our most diverse family of fabrics.

How Does It Work?
The 100% polyester velour, pebbled, or shearling surfaces create air pockets that trap air and retain body heat, providing outstanding warmth without weight. These fabrics offer excellent breathability and dry quickly. Many styles are also available with a water repellent finish that sheds rain and snow.

Polartec® Thermal Pro® fabrics are available in a wide range of weights and styles, to provide the right level of insulation and most unique-looking fabrics for most outdoor activities. These fabrics represent the state of the art in insulation fabrics and include surface textures like herringbone, tweed, nailhead, cobble cloth, ripstop, corduroy, cable knit, rib sweater knits and even honeycomb patterns.

Polartec® Wind Pro®

Performance fabrics that are both wind resistant and highly breathable.
Polartec® Wind Pro® fabrics are extremely breathable yet provide 4 times more wind resistance than traditional fleece. This is the new "super fleece" that spans an incredibly wide range of conditions; performs as both outerwear and insulation; and offers exceptional durability. This is a versatile fabric that can be worn all year long for a variety of activities, from watching an outdoor football game to snowshoeing.

How Does It Work?
Proprietary yarns and a very tight construction greatly reduce the effects of windchill, the Achilles heel of traditional fleece. We have proven its effectiveness both in the lab and in the field. Polartec® Wind Pro® blocks the wind 4x more than traditional fleece.

The Durable Water Repellent outer surface sheds rain and snow. Velour or pebbled inner surfaces efficiently trap air and provide a high warmth-to-weight ratio. Both surfaces of these fabrics are finished for maximum durability and pill-free performance. They retain their insulating ability and original appearance after repeated use and laundering.

Because it is not a laminate, Polartec® Wind Pro® is also highly breathable, maintaining 85% of the breathability of traditional fleece to keep you from overheating.

Polartec® Power Shield®

Clothing that changes the face of outerwear.
Polartec® Power Shield® fabrics are the next generation of technical outerwear, the soft shell. This clothing concept goes beyond traditional 2-layer systems—which feature fleece insulation and a waterproof/breathable shell—to a single layer that protects against all but the worst weather conditions and delivers extended breathability, abrasion resistance and stretch to enhance your outdoor adventure.

How Does It Work?
Polartec® Power Shield® fabrics feature a smooth, tightly woven face for abrasion resistance without the stiffness and noise of a traditional hard shell. A polyester velour back traps air and provides a high warmth-to-weight ratio.

All Polartec® Power Shield® fabrics are finished with a Durable Water Repellent (DWR) to shed rain and snow. All versions feature spandex or mechanical stretch for freedom of movement.

Garments made from Polartec® Power Shield® fabrics are designed to replace traditional fleece and shell systems for most outdoor clothing applications, reducing the weight and number of layers needed to insulate and protect. They are ideal for skiing, snowboarding, climbing and backcountry trekking.

They are used in jackets, pants, bibs, hats and gloves. It's outerwear that gets worn, not carried in a pack.

Polartec® Power Shield® Pro

The Ultimate Soft Shell.
In 1998 Polartec launched Polartec® Power Shield® and the soft shell revolution. It was developed in recognition of the fact that 90% of the time you are outside, the weather isn't that bad. So there is great benefit in giving up a little weather protection, in order to get a lot more breathability.

In 2010, we are building on that product history by adding real water resistance to our soft shells with the launch of Polartec® Power Shield® Pro. Polartec® Power Shield® Pro combines never before seen levels of air permeability with durable hydrostatic resistance to keep you dry both from within and from out.

After launching Polartec Power Shield Pro at the consumer level in Fall 2010, it has won numerous awards, including Outside Magazine and National Geographic Adventure "Gear of the Year" and others.

How Does It Work?
Polartec® Power Shield® Pro fabrics feature a smooth, tightly woven face for great abrasion resistance, and a polyester back for a high warmth-to-weight ratio. The membrane in the middle enables the fabric to block 99% of the wind. The remaining 1% circulates within the fabric which greatly enhances moisture vapor transmission, improving breathability and reducing the risk of heat stress buildup.

Polartec® Power Shield® fabrics have the best breathability in the soft shell market. In fact, Polartec® Power Shield® Pro fabrics are 30-50% more breathable than windproof soft shells in dynamic or active conditions.

Most hard shell fabrics allow zero airflow. Even when compared to the best waterproof/breathable fabrics, Polartec® NeoShell® has over 2X the airflow. This controlled exchange of air allows the process of convection to increase the transfer of moisture vapor. You won’t notice windchill. But you will feel drier.

The standard for waterproof.
For a fabric to be considered waterproof, it must withstand the industry’s requirement in hydrostatic head tests of 10,000mm of water pressure. Anything beyond this point is unnecessary as it won’t keep you any drier. You’re dry at 10,000mm. You won’t stay drier with a higher number. But you’ll likely be wetter from sweat.

Dynamic testing for a dynamic world.
The airflow found in all conventional waterproof/breathables is close to zero whether you’re active or not. That’s why claims for these garments are based on static tests like RET and MVTR. But the claims become irrelevant the second you walk outside. Breathability is more accurately measured with Dynamic Breathability Testing, which accounts for real-world conditions like wind and movement.
